When we chose to call our place ChaliceStream, we had in mind two symbols—one signifying the power of the spirit, the other the power of nature.
The chalice to us represents man’s fashioning of a cup worthy to hold his most precious spiritual values, as we here try to fashion in dance and in life a human image that is pleasing to the senses and speaks to the heart, so that the dance and our persons become a celebration of the pride and dignity in becoming human. We think that fine art, like the chalice, is a gift to all mankind for the nourishment of the soul, that it is uplifting and ennobling, that it is sustaining.
From nature we chose the power of the stream because two streams flow through the land on which we live, and water refreshes, it purifies as it moves, it sings as it encounters obstacles, it reflects the sun’s rays and the moon’s beams, it is a ribbon of light. It is ongoing and knows the seasons, and we hope that our work here in the time given us will, like a stream, delight this landscape and the people who visit us.
